About
My PhD thesis looks at the changing ideals of masculinity in adaptations of 'Jane Eyre' and 'Wuthering Heights' in the 1930s/1940s, 1960s/1970s, and 1990s/2000s. Specifically, I am examining and tracing the Byronic figure as first adapted by the Brontes themselves in the characters Rochester and Heathcliff, and how this plastic figure takes form in different social/cultural/historical contexts within selected film adaptations of the novels.
