About

My research covers two major strands. Empirically, I spend most of my time studying the diverse aspects of communications law and policy in the European Union, with an emphasis on audiovisual regulation, data protection and competition law aspects. These are areas I also have done and continue to do consulting on. Tied in with this is a subsidiary interest in regulatory issues more generally and notably the European better regulation agenda and its counterparts in the US and the OECD.

As a teacher of political analysis, I take an interest in both the philosophical, especially the epistemological-methodological, and theoretical foundations of the discipline. In terms of applied methodology, my main interest is in social network analysis and its application to the study of political phenomena, notably elite networks, but also for the operationalization of the policy networks literature more broadly. My other major interest in methodological terms is in legal hermeneutics and the rules of reasoning used in court decisions. I plan to bring together these two strands of interest in future work.

In line with the above strands, I have also been developing an interest in the use of agent-based modelling. If you are working in poli.sci. in the UK and would like to share experiences, contemplate joint panel organisation, etc., please do get in touch.
