About
I completed my PhD at the University of Exeter in March 2012. I passed my viva with minor corrections and the examiners were Professor Judith Buchanan (York) and Dr Dan North (Exeter).
My PhD research traces the construction and evolution of the star text of Laurence Olivier as it relates to cinematic Shakespeare production and formulations of nationhood in 1940s and 1950s Britain. Using Olivier as a case study, the project interrogates the relationship that exists between broader industrial-cultural appropriations of 'Shakespeare' and a sense of a star’s personal connection with the national poet.
