About
Ellie is a theatre director, actress and teacher. She has a degree in Performing Arts from Middlesex University and trained at the Jacques Lecoq International Theatre School in Paris (1987-89). In 1989 she co-founded the La Mancha International Theatre Company and continues to be its UK Artistic Director. The company has toured throughout the UK, Europe, Scandinavia, Central and South America and in 1995 she co-founded the La Mancha International School of Image and Gesture in Santiago, Chile, which offers professional training in theatre practice.
Ellie returned to the UK in 2006 to join the Arts University College at Bournemouth as Senior Lecturer in Movement and Acting. She is also a member of its governing body. Her practice and research is underpinned by her Lecoq training and centres on the ‘creative actor’. She is currently working on a PhD in Performance Practice at the University of Exeter, which focuses on the relationship between the body and the imagination within theatre devising practices. Her research interrogates how methods and strategies developed in her own practice are informed by French theatre pedagogue Jacques Lecoq’s notion of the ‘poetic body’.
