About
I am a Ph.D. student receiving AHRC funding in the department of Sexuality and Gender Studies at the University of Exeter. Currently I am awaiting my viva (11 May 2012) that will be examined by Prof. Feona Attwood (Sheffield Hallam) and Dr Danielle Hipkins (University of Exeter). My thesis redresses a gender imbalance in the critical literature by providing a discursive history of female masochism that examines key theoretical shifts in tandem with a few carefully selected cultural representations. More broadly my research examines the intersection between literary, filmic, theoretical and scientific texts as they formulate discourses of sexuality, particularly in its ‘non-normative’ forms. This will make a significant contribution to the under-researched area of sexual subcultures within the humanities, and prepare me for an academic career in interdisciplinary gender and sexuality studies.
My additional research interests include: fat studies, sexual ethics, mental health, public engagement.
